Kirstie Allsopp’s Handmade Fair is returning to the midlands in 2018! You may remember I had a fun day of crafting and DIY at the 2017 fair with my lovely friends Lynda & Jess, so I was really pleased to be invited along to the launch of this year’s Handmade Fair Warwickshire event. Jess joined me for an evening of fizz, cake and makes!
After a warm welcome to Rewired PR’s fab new offices, we settled in to our first workshop – folk painting with the team from Folk It. If you’ve ever wondered how the beautiful ‘canal boat’ style of painting is achieved, these are the, erm, folks to show you how. We started with simple ‘dot’ painting – I’ve never painted in this style before, but with a few tips and a dotting tool, I was soon away. By the end of the session I’d learned both a heart and flower technique, and painted two heart shapes – one of which I was able to turn into a lovely birthday card for my mom! (Who genuinely thought I was joking when I said I’d painted it – I’ll take that as a compliment!
A few shakes of ‘glamour dust’ later for some finishing sparkle, and it was time to move on to our second workshop – jewellery making with Leicestershire Craft Centre.
We learned how to make a very on-trend tassel necklace – again jewellery making isn’t really a craft I’ve spend much time on, so I was surprised how quickly the necklace came together (with a little help on my tassel making!!) It definitely gave me lots of ideas for how the technique could be used to make other jewellery and gifts in the future.
Both Folk It and Leicestershire Craft Centre will be running sessions at the Handmade Fair Warwickshire in May. If you fancy going along you can grab your tickets here.
Big thanks to Rewired PR for inviting me along!
